So then, come Valentines Day, he didn't give me anything else. Not that I expected anything else but it was just sort of out of character for Mike. So then two days ago he came home from working and said pack your bags, we're leaving town! I didn't have any idea where we were going. He just told me to bring our snowboards and warm clothes. I was so flustered I didn't even know what to pack. He was in such a hurry to get on the road I didn't know what we were doing. Next thing I knew, Mike's mom showed up to watch our kids and we were headed south. Of course I knew we were going snowboarding and I quickly ruled out Kelly Canyon or Targhee. After some scary snowy roads we arrived in Layton. We went to a wonderful dinner at Olive Garden and then had some ice cream in the hot tub at our hotel. It was so nice to have a little getaway without children!
The next morning we woke up early and went to Powder Mountain for a full day of boarding! Wow!! The mountain had received 31" of fresh powder in the last 48 hours!! It was wonderful! In Layton they had 12" of new snow so I knew it would be nice but it was amazing!
I have to back up just a little bit. 6 Years ago when Mike and I were first dating, I had been snowboarding for a few years but Mike had never been. One night when I was working at Wingers in Pocatello, someone broke into my car and stole my snowboard. And of course, Mike to the rescue...he saved up enough money to buy a new board for both of us! I was so excited for him to learn with me. At this time it was spring time so we didn't have a chance to go. So, the following winter...I was pregnant with Braden and we never made it snowboarding. The next winter I was nursing him and couldn't go again. Well, you all know how it goes from there, either prego or nursing every winter thereafter. So here we are. We got to take our still "Brand New" 6 year old snowboards up to the mountain for the first time!
That is why this trip was so special to me. I have been wanting to go on this adventure with my hubby for a very long time and it just had not come yet. Now we are both so happy we had the opportunity to do this. Thanks to Mike's sweet mom and sister for taking care of our kids. I honestly want to say that this is something that really was important for us. We have a wonderful marriage and are so happy but this almost felt like we were dating again. We have forgotten what life was like without kids. It was so nice to have time alone and be with eachother. I truely am so lucky to have Mike as my husband. We had so much fun. It was such a good trip but of course we were so excited to come home and see our kids! It was the best gift Mike could have given me!

Today is Super Bowl Sunday and Mike's whole family is from Arizona! So of course we had to host a huge super bowl party. Once everyone arrived we had an unexpected guest! News Channel 6 knocked on our door. We were house #2 on their story. They came and took some video of our family and here is the clip on the news tonight.
The funny thing about the whole story is that two days ago I came home from work and Mike had my "Valentines Day present" set up in the living room. He took it upon himself to buy a 52" TV! He had it mounted on the wall and everything. I wish I could say I was thrilled. Now after the news crew showed up of course he thinks it's just fine that he bought the TV! And of course all of the men in the family thought buying a new TV would be totally appropriate to do for the Super Bowl. Anyway, we had a ton of fun....too bad the Cardinals couldn't finish it off!!
